Clinical Training

The Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) is 1000 bedded multi specialty Hospital provides enrich clinical experience to the students.

The students are given hands on clinical training in the attached Kovai Medical Center and Hospital www.kmchhospitals.com. This is a state of the art 1000 bedded multi disciplinary, super specialty hospital. Students have excellent exposure to a wide range of clients in the department of Pediatrics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Plastic surgery, Cardio - pulmonary, Neuro ICU, Neonatal ICU, Mental Health and Community center. They are also posted in the department of Occupational therapy for training in the specialized fields of practice .The department of Occupational Therapy is one of its kind in the whole of South India spread over an area of 4000square foot with the specialized units of Child health ,Mental Health ,Cognitive perceptual unit ,Play therapy Sensory Integrative Therapy, Group Therapy, ADL Room,Hand Therapy, Splinting Unit, and with provision for Advanced mobility training.

The students at KMCH College of Occupational Therapy undergo intensive clinical training and fieldwork in areas of Physical disabilities and Psychological medicine.

In addition the students and interns are involved in early intervention programs, school based therapy, community programs, hand therapy, hand splinting, geriatric care; During the 6 months of internship program the interns are trained to develop clinical and professional skills to prepare them for the transition from student to becoming a competent professional . The interns get additional filed placements in Leprosy Mission karigiri, St. John Medical College& Hospital, Bangalore; Kusumagiri Mental Health Center, Kerala. Apart from the regular clinical program they learn skills of using objective assessments, documentation, report writing, taking responsibility for organizational and administrative work in the treatment area. In order to gain strong research base and scholarly attitude interns are also required to carry out short project work and do critical review of articles from Journals.
